Michael Phelps has individually transformed the swimming world. He has won 14 Olympic Gold Medals, more than anyone else in history. Phelps also holds 7 world records.Sports Illustrated named him Sportsman of the Year in 2008. He has recently been on suspension from USA Swimming for the use of marijuana. He is currently training for the 2012 Olympics in London, England. He does not plan to have an as extensive swimming schedule for the olympics, but will still try to get a gold medal in every event. Natalie Coughlin is an American Swimmer who has represented the United States in the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She became the first female swimmer in history who won 6 medals in a single olympics and the first woman ever to win the 100m Backstroke in 2 consecutive olympics. She lives in Lafayette California where she continues to train for the 2012 London Olympics. Dara Torres is an American swimmer who has represented the United States in an amazing 5 Olympic games. She shocked the world as being the oldest to compete in the intense olympic swimming program at 41. She holds an impressive twelve olympic medals. Pretty Impressive for being a mom. Brendan Hansen is an American Swimmer who specializes in the Breaststroke. He holds four olympic medals and once held the world record in the 100m Breaststroke. He became the upset of the Olympics after stating that he was going to try to beat Japan's Kosuke Kitajima and in the end, failed. He finished in fourth in the event but won a gold medal in the 4X100 Medley Relay. Stephanie Rice is an Australian swimmer who currently holds the world records in the 200m and the 400m Individual Medley. She won 3 olympic gold medals in the 2008 Beijing all in world record time. Rice continues to train in Brisbane Australia and is planning on experimenting with the 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. Frederica Pellegrini is an Italian swimmer who owns the world record in both the 200m long course and short course events. She is the first female swimming olympic champion for Italy. At the 2004 olympic games, she placed second the 200m freestyle at the age of 16, becoming the youngest athlete ever to win an olympic medal in the history of Italian sports. She continues to train in her hometown of Mirano where she trains for the next olympic games. Milorad Cavic is a Serbian swimmer who almost took down Michael Phelps in the 100m Butterfly at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He finished 1/100 of a second behind him. You can't even blink your eyes in that little of time. He holds many European championship medals and is training to maybe perhaps beat Michael Phelps in the 100m Butterfly at the 2012 Olympic in London. We will soon find out. |
